Currently, our shelter is funded by our church with no government assistance. The city of Sarnia took River City to court because RCV does not have the proper zoning to have a homeless shelter, while we believe it is a great location for the shelter and we have a right to help people. River City lost the case in Superior court and is now planning on taking this to the next level, the court of appeals. We are not in a position to pay for this court cost. We also believe that this fight is not about River City but about our right, as a church, to do what we believe is the right thing to do; “Love your neighbour” Mark 12:31 and “and give shelter to the homeless” Isaiah 58:7. It is also a fight about discrimination (ie. "we don’t want a certain people group in our neighbourhood") and about providing services for thousands of dollars instead of millions. So we believe that we should ask many individuals and organizations to help us fund our fight. Thanks for your support.
We are asking for 200 individuals and churches to donate $10/month for the following reasons:
Many people would rather give $120 than $10/month and we have that set up as well. We are a registered charity and give out tax receipts at the end of the year.
If you wish to donate by cheque, mail it to:
